Visiting Artist Kyla Toomey is coming to The Clay School
One-day Demonstration Workshop | January 26, 2025, 10am-4pm
$95/per person
We are thrilled to announce that Boston based artist Kyla Toomey will be coming to The Clay School!!!
During this workshop, visiting artist Kyla Toomey will demonstrate her unique techniques for throwing and altering pottery, and the ways in which alterations make everyday functional items more dynamic. Each pot Kyla throws is a blank canvas to explore the soft, elastic qualities of clay and how impressing alterations can create curves, softened grid lines, volume, and depth of surface.
Kyla will also demonstrate how to make your own tools and stamps to develop a style that is unique to you. The tools don’t have to be complex - even simple tools can create distinctive work.
Demos, slide talk, small hands-on portion making tools, priceless knowledge
Potluck Lunch will be organized
Kyla received her BFA in ceramics from Alfred University and her MFA in ceramics from The Ohio State University. She has been awarded artist residencies at a number of clay programs and has teaching experience at every level from college to children’s clay camps. Most recently, Kyla was an Adjunct Professor and Artist in Residence at Kansas State University. She has exhibited her work extensively since 2004.
This workshop is designed for both throwers and hand-builders with at least some experience working with clay.
“I am a local artist who comes to all the workshops offered here because they get amazing visiting artist!”
